“Response of Jacob the Jew”

The Bełżyce Castle Foundation, together with Grodzka Gate — NN Theatre Centre, mounted a production based on the 16th-century polemic between the learned preacher Jakub Nachman, known as Jakub of Bełżec, and the Lublin Socinian Marcin Czechowic, a theologian and religious poet. This polemic, Odpis Jakuba Żyda… (Response of Jacob the Jew), is important because it is the first book known to have been written in Polish by a Jew.
