Yesterday, at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, representatives of the POLIN Museum, the Jewish Historical Institute, and the ŻIH Association laid a joint wreath.

The central ceremonies in Warsaw, organized by the Shalom Foundation on the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, brought together Survivors, veterans, representatives of state and local authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, as well as cultural institutions and non-governmental organizations.

In tribute to the murdered, we listened to songs performed by artists of the Jewish Theatre and to prayers offered by representatives of different faiths. Flowers were laid and candles were lit, paying homage to the victims of the Holocaust and to all those who opposed violence and hatred.

With each passing year, there are fewer and fewer witnesses to this history—only last year we were able to hear Marian Turski’s final speech at Auschwitz. Today, it is our responsibility to do everything we can to preserve his testimony and the voices of other Survivors for future generations.
