The Tygodnik Powszechny Foundation is organizing a series of 10 educational events in cultural centers in Małopolska province for secondary-school students, during which historians and people working to recover the memory of Polish Jews conduct “Memory Lessons.” The events are intended to interest youth in an often ignored part of their local history and encourage them to look for traces of the Jewish community in their area. The events open with a screening of the documentary film Edge of Light, directed by Wojciech Szumowski, which describes the restoration of the Jewish cemetery in the town of Czarny Dunajec by the athlete Dariusz Popiela. The film provides a starting point for a discussion with young people about how they can help build awareness and social sensitivity in their area.
