Memory stones as a physical commemoration of Zbąszyń’s Jewish community

Grant for TRES Foundation for Memory stones as a physical commemoration of Zbąszyń’s Jewish community project

Memory stones as a physical commemoration of Zbąszyń’s Jewish community, a project of the TRES Foundation, will install Stolpersteine, “stumbling” stones embedded in the sidewalk in front of houses where Jews once lived — each one bears the name and information about the former Jewish residents. The memory of the local Jewish community in Zbąszyń is dying along with the last residents born before World War II. The project is intended to strengthen community awareness of the local Jewish community and of the history of the Polenaktion and transit camp for Polish Jews who were deported from the Third Reich to Zbąszyń in October 1938.
