Kielce Memories

A subsidy for the Jan Karski Society in Kielce.

The Jan Karski Society in Kielce published Kielce Memories by Rafael Blumenfeld. Translated from Hebrew, this memoir regarding the fate of Jews from Kielce after the Second World War is one of the few Jewish testimonies about the Kielce pogrom. Rafael last saw his closest relatives just before they were transported from the Kielce ghetto to Treblinka in August 1942. He was at the Sachsenhausen camp until the end of the war. After returning to Kielce, he worked as a teacher with a group of 35 young Jews at 7 Planty Street. During the pogrom, he was wounded, and his five students were murdered.
